In Toronto, Canada alone there are around
10,000 homeless youth’s living on the streets each year and 2,000 on any given
night. These numbers contribute to the growing death toll of homeless youth
which is 40 times that of sheltered or housed youth.
We see them every day, yet we ignore them
causing their numbers to grow and the severity of their problems to worsen. The
increasing rates of homeless youth in many major cities across North America
will continue to grow unless this issue is faced head on.
The list can go on and on explaining the
homeless youth rate; however it can be summed up into three reasons, sexual,
physical and emotional abuse. The constant neglecting of these problems and the
youth themselves is creating troubled environments for these teens cause them
to runaway into the streets.
